Perception Systems Engineer

JCA Technologies develops advanced technology solutions for mobile machines in off-highway vehicle applications. We apply a combination of our cutting-edge technologies, engineering expertise, and manufacturing capabilities to enable unique off-highway mobile machine systems for our customers.

We are seeking a motivated individual for a unique opportunity in the area of robotics and autonomous systems. This individual would be responsible for:

  • Evaluation of perception sensing technologies
  • Research and development of perception algorithms for obstacle detection and automation of machine tasks
  • Development of perception software modules and libraries
  • Formal verification and validation of perception solutions
  • Development of internal technology, processes and tools for the design of perception systems

The following are guidelines of what we are looking for in a candidate. Candidates who do not meet all of the criteria will be considered if they can demonstrate exceptional skills in other areas. At JCA we care more about your ability to learn new things and your passion for excellence in our craft than preexisting knowledge in any specific technology. You will have a direct influence on setting the direction of products as well as shaping our company culture from the ground up.

Candidates willing to work in either our Canadian (Winnipeg, Manitoba) or our US (Lincoln, Nebraska) locations will be considered.

Guidelines:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science from an accredited University. Candidates with differing education background but relevant experience may also be considered
  • Hands-on experience with perception sensors such as cameras, Lidar and radar.
  • Experience with perception-related technologies such as point-cloud processing, computer vision and machine learning
  • Experience developing C++ and Python software in Linux environments.
  • Proven ability to learn quickly, with independent research to be able to get things working without much guidance
  • Ability to work to relatively high-level objectives
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team

Preferred qualifications:

  • Masters or PhD degree in a relevant field
  • Experience with Robot Operating System (ROS), OpenCV or PCL
  • Experience working with Agile software development methodologies
  • Experience in the development of solutions for mobile machine applications such as agricultural vehicles and implements, construction vehicles, mining vehicles and machinery, or forestry vehicles
